The Power Within You
This post I am sharing one of the larger revelations I have had up until this point in my life and how I discovered it….
As you may have seen on my Instagram or blog, in 2017 I changed my life completely. I moved to LA to get certified in yoga, leaving behind my extremely comfortable (and not to mention, amazing) life in NYC.
The reason being is really simple – I wasn’t totally fulfilled and therefore, wasn’t as happy as I knew I could be. And how did I know this? The only way I can describe it is that I felt off and stuck.
I was able to really feel into this “off” feeling through my meditation work, by going inward. It was through that work that I was able to actually begin to feel into what was going on internally and subconsciously. I think for a good amount of time (maybe years) I was numb, and just going through the motions. I was doing what I thought I was supposed to do, and living a life I thought I was meant to live. But it got to a point where I knew deep down something was not right.
I am sure many of you have felt this before and many have you have done what I did next – took a leap and made a change.
Within the past year I have managed to create an entire new life for myself, planting my seed here in Santa Monica. And even though it has been a whole year, friends and family still ask and say things along these lines: “I can’t believe you moved there!” or “How did you just move across the country?!” and “Wow, I just can’t believe you are doing that!”
It is through all of that and still hearing those questions and comments, that this insane lightbulb went off and I discovered what I am about to share.
The revelation (drumroll, please): You Hold the Power Within You to Create Whatever Reality You Want for Yourself.
Yes, YOU!
Most of you who read this (and I know this because you are basically all my friends or family) have probably gone through some type of college or schooling, live in a major city, work a demanding job, have gotten promotions and raises, pay rent and bills, feed yourself, sustain relationships with friends and loved ones, travel, and probably (or hopefully) all the while doing things that bring you joy (like workout, read or shop).
You have managed to create this insanely AMAZING and impressive reality for yourself. Yes, people can argue you were given pushes or jumpstarts to get to where you are today, but let’s face it: you studied to gradate, you show up to work every day, and you put the time in with your partner or friends. You have done all of this to sustain the life you are currently living.
Yet, so many of us do not realize this. So many of us do not think there is any other option than whatever the current situation is, which to me, is so crazy.
If you were able to create this current reality, why do you think you do not hold the power to create a different one?
Yes, there may be things that are out of our control or that we feel are preventing us, like finances, family obligations or sickness. But I would bet that there are things you could change within the scope of your current situation. You just need to detach from your mind to get there.
What do I mean by that? The only thing standing in your way – is you.
To get to that place you need to look inward, and realize that whatever thoughts in your mind that are preventing you from making a change, do not define you. Our minds can be such a beautiful and powerful tool, but they can also be the cage that keeps us locked into a life we do not want to live.
Now, some of you might be thinking, “I am perfectly, and 100% happy. There is not one thing I would change about my life.” And if that is the case, amazing! Keep on doing what you are doing! But, if you are feeling stuck or off, or if anything I have said up to this point has resonated, you too can make a change – no matter how big or small.
You hold the power to create your reality.
I will leave you with this small exercise to not only help remind you of this, but to help you cultivate this new mindset. It is a daily mantra, and what you can do is write this each day for however many times you feel is right. For some it might be three, for others it might be thirty. Regardless, it will serve as your daily reminder that you can live the life you want to live.
· Your new daily mantra: I (insert your name) hold the power within me to create whatever reality I want for myself.
You can write this after your daily meditation, or use this writing exercise as your meditation. Put on some music, light your favorite candle and write. Try it out for the next week or two and see how it feels. You never know….it might just open your mind to a new venture, allow you to get in touch with your truest desires or help you take a leap you have been wanting to take.
